What the independent fuel analysis found

E&S Environmental Services compared customer-supplied untreated fuel with a CarPills-treated sample. The reported cetane result can be checked in the source excerpt.

Report ES7456-7459

Untreated and CarPills-treated fuel samples

Laboratory result

Cetane number: 49.7 untreated, 51.5 treated

The laboratory reported a 1.8-point increase in cetane number for the treated sample. Against the report’s stated BS EN 590 minimum of 51.0, the untreated sample was marked “Fail” and the treated sample “Pass”.

Untreated diesel

49.7

CarPills-treated diesel

51.5

40 → 35 mg/kg

Both passed the report’s stated maximum.

0.47% → 0.47%

No reported change.

839 → 839 kg/m³

No reported change at 15°C.

What the lab number means

From cetane points to something a driver can recognise

Cetane number describes how readily diesel begins to ignite after injection. In the paired analysis, the treated sample increased from 49.7 to 51.5 - a rise of 1.8 cetane points. Higher cetane is generally associated with a shorter ignition delay and a smoother, more controlled start of combustion. See why ignition quality is one reason drivers consider fuel additives.

What you may notice

Depending on the engine, fuel and conditions, shorter ignition delay can be experienced as easier starting, less diesel knock and smoother or quieter running. Vehicle response varies.

What it does not prove

A cetane result alone cannot tell us how many litres a vehicle will save. The laboratory analysed fuel properties; it did not run a vehicle fuel-economy or exhaust-emissions test. Read the broader diesel fuel-additives evidence guide.

Why fuel use matters

If your own like-for-like records show that you use less fuel for the same distance, you buy less fuel and the tailpipe CO₂ produced from burning that fuel falls broadly in step. That benefit is conditional on an actual measured fuel saving. Explore the relationship between fuel use, CO₂ and the available evidence.

A simple way to make it personal

Record several comparable fill-ups before and after treatment, rather than relying on one dashboard reading. As an illustration, a genuine 5% reduction over the same mileage would mean about 5% less fuel purchased and approximately 5% less tailpipe CO₂ from fuel combustion. This is a conditional calculation - not a result established by the laboratory report or a guaranteed CarPills outcome.

Customer Honza reported around 7% lower fuel consumption after six months. That is a personal experience and is presented separately from the laboratory measurement.

Customer experiences

What drivers noticed in everyday use

These are genuine personal accounts from everyday driving. They show the kinds of changes individual drivers noticed; they are not controlled tests or guaranteed outcomes. Vehicle, fuel, condition and driving style all matter.

We’ve been using CarPills for about six months… fuel consumption has dropped by around 7%. It also seems to us the engine produces less smoke.

Honza · Ford Mondeo owner

The car runs substantially better, engine sounds smoother… and has a more refined operation overall.

Customer experience after approximately 450 miles

Noise reduction, vibration reduction… the engine runs smoother [and] reduced fuel consumption after second fuelling.

Common questions

Understanding the evidence

Was the laboratory independent?

The report was issued by E&S Environmental Services Ltd for us, MAE Development - CarPills manufacturer.  The laboratory performed and reported the analysis of the supplied samples.

Does it prove a fuel-saving percentage?

It analysed fuel properties, not vehicle fuel consumption. Savings in testimonials are individual experiences.
